Ultimate Beginnings

Collingwood, ON [July 14, 2017] – One of the signature events for the 2017 Collingwood Elvis Festival celebrates Elvis™ by taking fans through his humble yet historic beginnings in a salute to the ‘firsts’ of an incredible career.

Ultimate Beginnings is a new show in 2017, and features tribute artists who have won the title of Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist at Elvis Week at Graceland. For a career as extensive as Elvis’, there are many firsts to celebrate. Ultimate Beginnings will take you back to the first songs Elvis performed, his inaugural hip-shaking performance, his movie debut, and his first Las Vegas show.

For David Lee, one the featured tribute artists in this show, his frequent trips to compete in Collingwood all begin the same way – with a smile – as he spots the “Collingwood Welcomes You” sign.

Although he’s now a seasoned performer, travelling more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km for us Canadians) to compete in Collingwood, David’s first public performance of Elvis’ music was at a going away party for a co-worker. Another co-worker had introduced him to Elvis’ music, and he quickly became a collector of all things Elvis. “I was like an Elvis Sponge,” he said.

When David started competing in early 2001, he was told he should compete in Collingwood at least once. He’s now made the trip 16 times, and is the one urging everyone to visit Collingwood. “Collingwood is very special to me and to my closest friends!” said David.

David Lee joins other Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artists Brandon Bennett, Cody Ray Slaughter, and returning Grand Champion Robin Kelly in the Ultimate Beginnings Show, on Friday July 28, from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena.

If you’re a fan of classic Elvis songs like Don’t be Cruel and Heartbreak Hotel, and you can’t stop your Blue Suede Shoes from tapping along to Hound Dog, then be sure to check out the Ultimate Beginnings show on Friday night at the Collingwood Elvis Festival.
